Unofficial Events

Unofficial NAQT Events are those that use NAQT questions but do not adhere to all of its national standards concerning gameplay, eligibility, and the reporting of statistics. Both collegiate and high school events may be designated Unofficial Events.

In order for a tournament to qualify as an Unofficial Event, it must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Questions. The tournament must be run entirely with questions provided by NAQT without alteration or omission except when necessary to correct grammatical, factual, or other errors. All such errors must be promptly reported to NAQT.

  • Contacts. The host must submit full contact information for each team in attendance no later than three days after the start of the event.

  • Results. The host must submit full results within seven days of the end of the tournament

The top 15% of the field at an Unofficial high school event will qualify for the High School National Championship Tournament. At the college level, all qualification for the Intercollegiate Championship Tournament is done through (Official) Sectional Championship Tournaments.

Tournaments that do not qualify as Official Events may still qualify as NAQT-Style events.

Questions regarding the status of an event or this policy in general should be directed to naqt@naqt.com.
